All Dressed Up: Portraits of Cosplayers

This article is an excerpt from my new publication All Dressed Up: Portraits of Cosplayers. With 97 photographs, the book explores the character within characters; stories from people performing their own versions of other people they have a passion for.

Selene

Tammy Cranswick was wearing some amazing contact lenses and bearing down with pointed teeth. I asked her if the teeth were comfortable? “Now that I’ve got them in, they’re good, but I did get a kink or so out of it when I was first moulding them in so they’re a little tender right now. So, taking them out or putting them in is a painful spot, otherwise, you don’t even feel them. Unless you drink coffee and then you have to be aware that you don’t slurp and drool.”

“It’s just that independence, that strength is why I like the character.”

Tammy explained her character, Selene from Underworld: “She’s basically a vampire. A lot of time she’s kind of a warrior, she protects her clan. But she’s also fighting vampires, Lycans (second-breed werewolves) … it’s just that independence, that strength is why I like the character.”
