Day 3 at the Mac’s AAA Midget Tournament
The Prince Albert Northern Bears opened the scoring in the second period against Calgary Fire on the third Day of the Pool stage of the Mac’s Midget Tournament at Max Bell Arena. The local team came back with a goal two minutes before the interval, making it 1-1.
In the third period, it looked as though the Bears, from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, had taken the lead with a shot that went five-hole. But on review, the referees waived that one off. Some protracted discussion between players and officials ended with a penalty to the Bears. This triggered further discontent with several checking incidents from both sides, including a short bout of ice wrestling. Final score: 1-1.
Mac’s Midget Female Division
There are eight female Bantam AAA teams competing in two pools in the 40th year of the Mac’s Midget AAA Hockey Tournament: Calgary Fire; Delta Academy Prep; Fraser Valley Rush; Prince Albert Northern Bears; Regina Rebels; Rocky Mountain Raiders; Swift Current Wildcats; and Vancouver Island Seals.
