Calgary White Hawks took on the Okotoks Oilers at Castle Downs Arena, Edmonton this afternoon in the closing game of the Round Robin stage of the Bantam Female A finals. The result went 5-2 to the Calgary team and with that, they go into the semi-finals on Sunday in top position.

In a game that was guaranteed to repeat on Sunday, whatever the outcome, the play went, not surprisingly rather quietly for much of the first period. Then with 30 seconds on the clock, Shannon Roach broke away down centre ice, deked past one defender and slipped the puck past Okotoks goalie, Ellen Poeizer’s left pad. Calgary hit the net again midway through the second period with a goal by Ella Kitchen that went underneath the goalie’s blocker arm.

Okotoks got on the score sheet with a freakish goal by Ruby Nerbas. It looked as though Calgary’s goaltender, Jazzie Rodak, had the puck controlled but it bobbled up off her shoulder and dropped over the line. Calgary retaliated a minute later with two goals in quick succession. Ellen Thomas struck the goalie’s pads and created a rebound upwards for Maddy Noonan to step in and half-volley the puck into the net. Jennifer Nixon then hit a fast one from the blue line at the

Jennifer Nixon then hit a fast one from the blue line by the boards. Another rebound, nicely collected by Jenna Salem to score.

Hailee Eason put away one more for Okotoks twelve minutes into the final period but with six minutes to go, Jada Hoeft scored from tight up against the post to make it 5-2 to the White Hawks (Note: the score attributed this to Chyenne Risling).

The semi-finals are set for Sunday. The Edmonton Warriors take a short trip home leaving Calgary White Hawks to play Okotoks Oilers and then St. Albert Blades will take on Sherwood Park.
