In a feisty contest, the Calgary White Hawks and St. Albert Blades tied 2-2 in their challenge to go top of the standings in the Alberta Hockey Bantam Female A Provincial Championships, presented by ATB Financial. In the first of their two games on the closing day of the Round Robin stage, the White Hawks went ahead immediately from the opening face-off with an unassisted goal scored by Mikayla Lui.

The Hawks lead was held through the second period that showed plenty of pressure on the net by the Calgary forwards but no goals.

Five minutes into the final period, the Whitehawks were penalized for too many men. The Blades took full advantage of their opportunity with Juliann Sherbeth finding a way past goalie Sophie Lajeunesse. The St Albert team scored again after 14 minutes with a well-timed shot, hit hard and high by Sophie McKinley.

Great reports, for these 2 outstanding games you reported on between St Albert Blades and the Calgary Hawks. It was intense and very entertaining hockey played by both teams. Classy young ladies and team staff on both sides of the puck. Calgary was an a huge challenge in both stature and skill for our St Albert girls. Congrats to the Calgary Hawks for a great season, you were a class act!

BTW, love the pic of my daughter “in flight” beside our net in the round robin game we tied.

        Thanks for your work!
