Eco-Wheels Show at the Toronto Distillery District

Shell’s Smarter Driver Challenge: Day 6 (June 16, 2012)

Saturday was one of those hot but blessedly not so humid days in Toronto. Nice to be out in the sunshine! The main street within the brick-built former warehouses and factories of the Distillery District was the setting for the 3rd annual Eco Wheels show. This mix of urban transport types-motor scooters by Honda, Amego, HeroEco and others, electric vehicles by Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius and others, as well as the bicycles you still have to push and pedal- was joined by the Shell Smarter Driver Challenge team.

A VW Passat like the one we are using on the drive across Canada to promote fuel efficiency was on display and smarter driver tutorials made available with John and Helen Taylor in the VW Touaregs we are using as support vehicles. Joining us on one side were Bob Oliver and folks from Pollution Probe, launching the 20th year of the Clean Air Commute. In the other booth right next to us were our partners in the Energy Diet Challenge, Canadian Geographic.

Check out some of the photos from the Distillery District-there are more than car shots today!

Smarter Drivers Playlist Pick of the Day

In deference to those forms of urban transport that don’t need fuel other than the food you eat, the pick of the day is Bicycle Race by Queen from the album “Jazz” (1978).
