Calgary Fire Red’s fourth game in the 2019 Alberta Hockey Provincial Championships (Midget Female Elite) was played against Sherwood Park Fury at the Coca-Cola Centre, Grande Prairie on March 30.
The game was tied with no goals after twenty minutes of play. Number seven, Siobhan Sullivan, scored seven minutes into the second period for Fire. Sully tucked the puck into the right corner of the net, under the glove hand of Sherwood’s goalie, Asia Kachuk. Bex Alloway made it 2-0 after fifteen minutes with a shot from out by the right faceoff circle that beat Kachuk five-hole.
Stanford hit from behind
Six minutes into the final period, Kelly Stanford skated down the right wing and was floored with a callous hit from behind after she had released the puck. Madison Porter got a five-minute penalty for head contact and was thrown out of the game. Stanford needed several minutes of attention from Fire Red’s athletic therapist, Karen Tran, before being assisted off the ice. She was unable to return to the game but fortunately recovered later. Fire Red’s defence shut down the Fury forwards for the remaining time in which Julia McEwen scored an empty-net goal.
Final score: Calgary Fire Red 3-0 Sherwood Park Fury
