It was an early, cold morning start for several hundred young athletes as they prepared for their journey north for the Alberta Winter Games 2018 in Wood Buffalo. Skiers, hockey players, and other young sportswomen and men bundled their equipment into the cargo holds of a fleet of six buses set to take them from Calgary to Fort McMurray, 740 km and 7.5 hours away.
The opening ceremony tonight is followed by a weekend packed full with competitions involving the best young players in the province in a range of sports including archery, badminton, curling, hockey, skiing, and wrestling.
A fantastic opportunity for those youngsters. Hope they kept warm x
