Olds Grizzlys came back from two goals down to win this rearranged Alberta Female Hockey (Bantam Elite) League game (A big snowstorm on Nov 3, 2017, resulted in calling off the original fixture).
Goals by Hailey Wiltshire and Jayna Barnden in the first period put league leaders Calgary Fire White in control, but not for long. After the break, the Grizzlys clawed back with goals from Kallie Clouston and Clare Hurley then went behind again when defender Gracie Gilkyson struck her ninth goal of the season.
Two unanswered goals in the final period, by Callie Clouston and Megan Yakiwchuk, were enough to secure the home team their well-deserved win, and the second loss in two days for the Calgary side, who still remain on top of the standings with just two league games remaining.
Final score: Olds Grizzlys 4 – 3 Calgary Fire White
Song of the Match
I was hoping I might hear a bear song or two but the wildest I could come up with was Werewolves of London. A great howler of a tune from Warren Zevon dating back to 1969. Here’s a live version from 1982. All together now, Aaoooooo!!
Up next
There’s a week off from the regular season games in the Alberta Female Hockey (Bantam Elite) League while the Alberta Winter Games get going up in Fort McMurray. The next Fire White game is on Saturday, Feb 24 against the Lethbridge Cyclones at Adams Ice Centre, Lethbridge.
