The 2014 Tour de France goes through my home village of Haworth, Yorkshire, England. © J. Ashley Nixon
As 2014 goes through its final few hours, I selected 14 photos from my portfolio across the past twelve months. The featured images come from Canada, USA, England, France, the Netherlands and Brazil using three cameras: Canon Rebel T2i, Canon 5D Mark III and my iPhone. I hope you like them!
January: Hockey takes my family and I around many of the Calgary Arenas.
February: On one of my two trips to Brazil this year, I spotted this frogman coming up for air while on an Urban Recce Run. You can read more on this venture along the coast in Barra da Tijuca, Rio here.
March: I spend a lot of time in Houston. These lifts (elevators if you must) running in the Hyatt Hotel always captivate me and make me think about Star Wars….
April: Two days of slow yet very purposeful racing by about 100 university and high school teams competing for full efficiency. More on this here on my blog about the Shell Eco-marathon.
May: I made my first trip to Boston and learned about its history and future challenges dealing with rising sea levels associated with climate change. More on this in my blog about urban resilience.
This photo was taken along the beach at Scheveningen, near Den Haag (The Hague), Netherlands. I posted a blog about the day running around here.
June: One of my favourite portraits of the year -a work colleague of mine taken at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada.
July: Two selected from the Tour de France. The first shows a cycling fan getting ingenious with ways to open up a bottle of beer in Stage 2, Haworth, Yorkshire, England. The second shows the overall winner Vincenzo Nibali on one of the stages in the Pyrenees, France. More on this in my Tour Notes blog about Yorkshire and one about the Pyrenees.
August: A cryptic shot of a great singer from Cuba at the Expo Latino. Guess who or read more here….
September: Calgary Flames Head Coach, Bob Hartley gave his time freely to help coach some young hockey players at the Honda Canada Camp.
October: I made my first trip to Detroit and came across a couple of hockey fans waiting for the game later that evening. More on this in a future blog!
November: My family joined me in New York City where we had an excellent morning walking along the High Line.
December: Kaillie Humphries got herself into the bobsleigh record books by piloting four man bob down the COP track, Calgary. More on this story here.
Thanks for coming to take a look. Let me know if you have a favourite?
