A celebration of hockey and the young women who play the game concluded its first weekend at WinSport, Calgary yesterday. Over 100 teams from Alberta, BC, Manitoba, NWT and Saskatchewan were participating in the Canadian Tire Wickenheiser World Female Hockey Festival.
Directed by six-time Olympian and former Team Canada captain, Hayley Wickenheiser, the games together with a range of skills, nutrition, and team building workshops was more than a competition or tournament. Girls and young women from over a hundred teams, Novice to Midget, plus the Pro-Level Calgary Inferno and Boston Blades turned out to play the game they love and support two worthy sports and child development charities, Jump Start and Right to Play.

Bantam Final: Calgary White Hawks vs Saskatoon Comet Impact
The Winter Sports Institute (WinSports) LEED-designed, 4,000 seater Olympic Arena was the venue for the final of the Bantam Tier 1-B tournament, played between Calgary Girls Hockey (CGH) White Hawks and the Saskatoon Comet Impact. Saskatoon had made it to the final without losing any of their four games and looked solid with a 1-0 lead going into the third period. The Calgary team pulled one back and then took the lead with 6:21 remaining on the clock. Saskatoon pulled their goalie and piled on the pressure. But the White Hawks held tight and took the game 2-1. All Playing for Canada.
