Prairie train #1. Lethbridge County, Alberta, Canada. © J. Ashley Nixon
There was lying snow in the ditches but on January 25, 2015 it was bright and uncannily warm. A wind was blowing hard off the Rockies. Like a steam train.
We were travelling to a hockey tournament in Picture Butte, Lethbridge County in Alberta when I came across this train on an unused stretch of overgrown track. The views of the machine, its undercarriage and springs caught my attention, especially when set against the Prairie wheat fields and bales of straw.

Processing was kept simple in Lightroom but I liked the monochrome look for these images. A few were developed using Split Tone 1 and the remainder with B&W Look 1.
My recommended pairing (viewing & listening): Train to Nowhere by Savoy Brown. Released on the album Blue Matter (1969).
