Prairie Train #1. Lethbridge County, Alberta, Canada. © J. Ashley Nixon
There was lying snow in the ditches, but on January 25, 2015, it was bright and uncannily warm. A wind was blowing hard off the Rockies. Like a steam train.
We were travelling to a hockey tournament in Picture Butte, Lethbridge County in Alberta, when I saw a train on an unused stretch of overgrown track. The machine, its undercarriage and springs set against the Prairie wheat fields and bales of straw caught my attention.

My recommended pairing (viewing & listening) is Train to Nowhere by Savoy Brown, an English Blues Rock band formed by guitarist and songwriter Kim Simmonds in London in 1965. This track was released by Decca on the album Blue Matter in 1969.
