Shiny morning, shinny skates

As early sun
Shoots through the zone
A shelf comes into life

Flashing blades of steel
These skates can feel
A pick-up game coming soon

Then onto ice
They’ll slide and glide
Make their mark until it floods

This poem was inspired by a moment caught just as the morning sun came through a window in the elegant, LEED designed Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre. Light and shadow captured on a shelf of hockey skates.
