Cowboys and a herd of horses bearing bells were not foreseen in an evening spent in the Sierra de San Juan de la Peña, Spain in July. About two hundred horses came alongside Casa Martin, a beautiful and highly recommended Casa Rural (B&B), where we were staying, just south of Jaca in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

Stallions and mares accompanying foals appeared out of the trees. The herd had spent the spring and early summer higher up in the valley where it is cooler and less bothersome from flies. Down the track they went, steered by vaqueros (cowboys).

Beautiful horses and soft summer greens. Salud!

Thanks. These photos were taken around 8:00pm local time and the light was gorgeous-streaming through the horses manes!
